How comfortable are you with the Dallas Cowboys tight end situation?
It’s quite the question heading into the 2020 season. Jason Witten is gone, and Prime Jason Witten is long gone. Now it’s time for Blake Jarwin to come into his own and step up in a big way – as the number one tight end for America’s Team.
Personally, I have a lot of confidence in Jarwin. He and quarterback Dak Prescott have displayed how strong their chemistry is over the last two seasons, and Jarwin’s ability after the catch is evident.
There is one major tight end piece still on the free agent market which is generating some buzz, however, and that tight end is Jordan Reed.
The former Washington star tight end was once a Pro Bowler, but hasn’t played a full season once in his entire career. His best year came back in 2015, when he caught 114 balls for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns. But 2015 was a long time ago, and Reed’s concussion issues are a serious concern.
Honestly, Reed should probably give football up. I’ve dealt with severe concussions from football in the past, and they are incredibly dangerous both long and short term. But if Reed wants to continue on in his career, that’s obviously his choice.
Bleacher Report linked Jordan Reed to the Cowboys this week, but I don’t see Dallas taking a chance here. They just re-signed Blake Jarwin to a four year deal in March, clearly indicating that the plan is for him to be Prescott’s tight end for the foreseeable future.
I hope Jordan Reed makes the best choice for his personal health and career, but I don’t see the fit in Dallas.
