Months Later, it Seems Jaguars S Barry Church was Right

Months Later, Jaguars Safety Barry Church Wa E

About five months ago, before the 2017 NFL season had even begun, former Cowboys safety Barry Church made comments which made Cowboys Nation scratch their heads. Now a Jacksonville Jaguar, Church said his current team was more talented than his former, the Dallas Cowboys.

At the time, many fans and writers alike laughed off his comments and chalked it up to typical preseason hype. Most people thought Church was crazy for suggesting a 13-3 team had less talent than the Jacksonville Jaguars, a team led by Blake Bortles.

Well, five months later, it’s become clear Barry Church was right.

This weekend the Jaguars went on the road to Pittsburgh, and came away with a wire-to-wire victory in January. The Jaguars were the more physical team from start to finish, and dominated from the opening kick off.

On the road.

Against the vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers.

Now the Jaguars are preparing to do something the Cowboys haven’t done in two decades: play in a conference championship game.

The Jaguars and Cowboys will be linked for the next decade or so due to decisions each made during the 2016 NFL Draft. And while it appeared the Cowboys pushed all the right buttons in 2016, it now looks as if the Jaguars are preparing to compete for AFC supremacy for years to come.

With their talented secondary, dominant defense, and physical rushing attack, the Jaguars have built their team in the mold of past champions.

The Cowboys have attempted to do some of the same, but it certainly looks as if Barry Church was correct in his preseason assessment of the two rosters.

Was this helpful?

Please. There's a lot of teams that have more talent than Dallas. They really haven't had a lot of talent period over the years. What they had was a QB that made them look much better than they actually were. Just look at all the players since 2007 that left Dallas and went to other teams. None of them were able to last or make a contribution. And I'm a Cowboy fan.

If you guys didn't get Calais Campbell last offseason you would be where you are now. We had to get raid of you and all the others guys so we can build our defense. But keep the talk up there is a next year maybe we get to play guys.it not you that making team defense very good it's the players around you believe that

Yes an no jaguars have more defined talent meaning ready to go yes but teams benefited from the 2016 draft by drafting two players that were in the top 10 talent Myles Jack, Jaylon Smith in the second round not to mention Zeke, Ramsey on the first respectively but Jacksonville additions by via free agency is the over the top give away Church, Jackson, Campbell, Bouye & Gipson over the span of three years add that too their drafting but dallas has drafted just as good but either injuries to the top picks like Lawrence, Gregory, Awuzie, Lewis, Collins & Crawford will stunt their growth each of these players have been injured either some part of their rookie season or down the line not to mention Irving, Claiborne, Lee but roster to roster they matchup the free agent put the jaguars over the top

I thought Barry was the one p[layer we might keep. Glad to see him doing well. Hopefully, the Cowboys will continue to draft for the defense. The Jaguars prove you can win with defense while waiting for Bortles to improve. I still think the Cowboy's strategy is sound. Sign/pay homegrown developed free agents on the O-line, with Zack next in that line. The deployment of their cash is a good move considering the length of time Offensive linemen can play. Draft the defense with young talent. Ezee-Pezee.

Yes, but I think it will be different next year, we will also see Randy Gregory

I don't think Gregory will be ready in 2018. Everything I've read, says Gregory need to get his life together before even thinking about playing football in 2018. Not counting on Gregory.

It appears that Barry Church is now a prophet!! Jaguars is set for the next 10 years, while the Cowboys continue to wallow in mediocrity for the next for the next 10 years. It's becoming more apparent that The Jones know what their doing, that's why they are who we thought they were. 8-8.

Jerry shows n shows again why the cowboys are at best mediocre because of his decisions. Good luck Barry playing for a real team while our team continues to let us down because of poor management and coaching

Didn't Dallas win four overtime games in 2016, before Zeke got suspended I predicted a 8-8 season in 2017. Those games could have went either way.

Could of would of it didn't that what matter

I don't anyone ever doubted the talent in Jacksonville. The problem was the QB and if there was a coach out there that could get anything out of him. So far they have this season, but they are succeeding mostly around him and propping him up, not the other way around.

You're right, Kevin. They were clearly the more talented team defensively. They seemed to have closed the gap offensively this year as well, however. Thanks for reading!
