2 Early Cowboys Mock Drafts: You Vote

8

We are in the second half of the season, but that doesn’t stop me or other Cowboys fans from thinking about future draft picks.

With two first-round picks and needs on both sides of the ball being apparent. I used PFF.com’s mock draft simulator to try out two different mock drafts.

Both of these mocks earned A-level grades from PFF, but we know that doesn’t mean much, and they take the Cowboys in some different directions for the team.

Below you can find the breakdown of each mock draft with the draft pick grade. See which one you think best fits the Dallas Cowboys’ needs.

2 Early Cowboys Mock Drafts: You Vote

Mock Draft #1: The Defensive Reload

R1:16 – ED Cassius Howell (Texas A&M) – A

Fans know the Cowboys need another guy creating pressure on the opposing quarterback, opposite of Donovan Ezeiruaku, and Howell gives the front instant juice.

R1:27 – LB Sonny Styles (Ohio State) – A+

Styles is the type of linebacker that will thrive in modern defenses. He has sideline to sideline speed and the size, length, and versatility to pair perfectly with our own DeMarvion Overshown.

R4:116 – S Earl Little Jr. (Florida State) – B+

We all know the Cowboys need a safety help and Little is the smart/athletic back-end defender who will strengthen what has been one of our biggest weaknesses.

R5:155 – HB CJ Baxter (Texas) – B-

A big runner with some speed at the second level. He does have some medical red flags, but could pair nicely with Javonte Williams in the Cowboys backfield.

R5:177 – ED Anto Saka (Northwestern) – A+

Double-dipping at edge gives the Cowboys real rotational depth and this pick could turn into a future star.

R7:215 – C Logan Jones (Iowa) – A-

A late-round Iowa lineman is always worth a look. Especially with our backup center entering free agency after the season.

Takeaway:

Dallas’ defense has turned it around the last three games, but help is still needed to take us to the next level. This draft fills some needs and brings speed and athleticism to the defense.

Mock Draft #2: Secondary and The Trenches

R1:16 – CB Jerrod McCoy (Tennessee) – A

Imagine for a second being able to pair Bland, Revel, Diggs (maybe), and McCoy. This pick could create the best CB unit in the NFC.

R1:27 – T Francis Mauigoa (Miami) – A

Most fans are not especially high on Terence Steele or Tyler Guyton. This pick could create some versatility on the edges of the line and give Guyton the option of moving to the right side.

R4:116 – S Emmanuel McNeil-Warren (Toledo) – A

With a last name like that, he has to be good, right? Warren is also one of the most underrated safeties in this draft class.

R5:155 – LB Sammy Omosigho (Oklahoma) – B-

This is a big athletic linebacker who could develop behind our guys, like a Shemar James.

R5:177 – ED Malachi Lawrence (UCF) – A-

An explosive edge rusher who could help bring some pressure.

R7:215 – ED George Gumbs Jr. (Florida) – A+

Great length and value. This is an ideal late-round pick with massive upside.

Takeaway:

This is a mock for fans screaming to get rid of Terence Steele and strengthen the safety position. It’s balanced, physical, and long-term smart.

I would have definitely, based upon assuming the players were available such as you did, select Sonny Styles and Mauigoa as both lend tremendous value to positions of great need. I can not select McCoy after seeing all the negative impact upon the Cowboys in missed time and salary cap resources such as Bland, Diggs and Revel inflicted upon the team, even come close to selecting McCoy based upon his injury history which is very significant. Still, I would trade down and, maybe, pick up for the #1 both a #2 and #3 that fit somewhere within the trade chart and I'm not opposed we do it. #1 - take the best player without an injury history at a place of most need, LOT, LB, S, CB, RDE. Personally, I believe that one of Anthony Smith or Quincy Rhoades will be available in #2, so choose a great CB such as Delane or, preferably a LB such as Styles in #1. If only to have Murray be cut from the team. Styles would be an urgent fix to the team. The draft lacks top-end talent, but goes well into #3 where the Cowboys could look at Golday, LB, Ibenhouer, OT and some DTs in case Clark is gone such as Dontae Corleone in adjustment to their prior draft picks. If Javonte isn't resigned, I believe that Moss and Singleton can be had in #4 and do a great job.

And on another note, there are other draft simulators to use that are better than PFF!! Unless you are paying extra for PFF, you can't make trades or anything with them!! Most of the other simulators let you make trades and whatever else you wanna do!! I used one yesterday that let's teams trade up or down and even let them trade picks and veteran players from their teams too!! I liked it a lot better than PFF!! But I figured I'd mention that so maybe one of you writers mite try using something else other than that PFF simulator!!

Cowboys Fan, I'm glad you are around. It is just fun to exchange ideas. Lol, if you thought that picking Taco over Watt was a good idea, I can't listen to you anymore. I know you didn't

I meant to say profootballnetwork.com instead of PFF. It is fun. If you know of some other sites, then share away.

I chose the 2nd one because I think we really need another corner!! We can't take the chance on putting Trikweze Bridges out on the field again, and I don't really think Reddy Steward is worth keeping out there either!! I'll never understand why we chose either of them over Israel Mukuamu, at least Mukuamu was pretty good!! And another reason I picked the 2nd draft is because of the offensive tackle you had on there!! Putting him at left tackle and moving Guyton to his more natural position at RT is a move we need to make!! We can't keep putting Steele out there anymore!! He's gotten better since coming back from his injury, but he's still not the player he was before the injury and I'm tired of hearing his number get called out for stupid penalties in almost every game!! So that's why I picked the 2nd draft!! But if I was gonna do anything in the draft, I would trade down with at least the first pick so we could get at least a 3rd round pick to use in this draft, I would hate to draft in the 1st round and then have to wait all the way until the 4th round to draft again!! And I think we'll be picking in a spot that will be good for us to trade down and still get a good player in the 1st round and the extra 3rd round pick!! And depending on how far down the second first round pick is, we could probably trade it for a top 5 pick in the 2nd round!! That will get us back our 2nd round pick!! But I think that can only happen if there's still plenty of players left on the board that mite have a chance to fall to us in the 2nd round!! And if there's a player on the board that is really good then we don't have to trade down, we can just get him and just miss the 2nd round, at least we'll have the extra 3rd round pick from trading down with our first 1st round pick!! And as far as the first mock draft goes, I liked it too, and I would really like to get Sonny Styles, but I think we should be good at LB since we have Overshown and Wilson with James and Liufau helping out!! And I think since we will have them, it'll be more important for us to get a better tackle for the offensive line so we can get rid of Steele!! And even though I think we have really good corners, none of them are meant to play in zone coverage and as long as we have Eberflus, we'll need corners that are good in zone coverage, so that's why I think we should draft another corner in the 1st round, one that's good in zone coverage!! If we can get Eberflus to change his ways and run more man coverage, to fit the corners we have, then I'll be good with drafting an offensive tackle and then Sonny Styles in the 1st round, or an offensive tackle and an edge rusher!! But that's only if Eberflus can start running more man coverage!! I'm not too far into the players to know much about the ones in the 4th round and later, so didn't talk about them, that's why I just mentioned the 1st round players!! But that's what I think about the mock drafts and what I think we should do!!

The first draft is great. Sonny Styles can be of great value and meet our vast need. I will go insane if I see Kenneth Murray in the NFL next year, unless he is playing for the Eaglets, lol, I digress. If we keep both #1s instead of trading down the latest #1 pick to gather a #2 and #3 in a draft that has good depth despite not many many superstars, except Downs, Arvelle, Bain and a few others, at the top, then I would like the following to be considered: Peter Woods, Mansour Delane, Quincy Rhoades, Anthony Smith (and he will rise from other sites placing him in #3), Sonny Styles, CJ, Golday, Lance Heard and others.

I had mentioned earlier that the Cowboys or Jones I mean, should peddle their late #1 pick to the Giants, Jets, Redskins, or even the Titans for their #2 and #3 draft picks. They will be the higher picks in each of those rounds.
