2 Early Cowboys Mock Drafts: You Vote

8

We are in the second half of the season, but that doesn’t stop me or other Cowboys fans from thinking about future draft picks.

With two first-round picks and needs on both sides of the ball being apparent. I used PFF.com’s mock draft simulator to try out two different mock drafts.

Both of these mocks earned A-level grades from PFF, but we know that doesn’t mean much, and they take the Cowboys in some different directions for the team.

Below you can find the breakdown of each mock draft with the draft pick grade. See which one you think best fits the Dallas Cowboys’ needs.

2 Early Cowboys Mock Drafts: You Vote

Mock Draft #1: The Defensive Reload

R1:16 – ED Cassius Howell (Texas A&M) – A

Fans know the Cowboys need another guy creating pressure on the opposing quarterback, opposite of Donovan Ezeiruaku, and Howell gives the front instant juice.

R1:27 – LB Sonny Styles (Ohio State) – A+

Styles is the type of linebacker that will thrive in modern defenses. He has sideline to sideline speed and the size, length, and versatility to pair perfectly with our own DeMarvion Overshown.

R4:116 – S Earl Little Jr. (Florida State) – B+

We all know the Cowboys need a safety help and Little is the smart/athletic back-end defender who will strengthen what has been one of our biggest weaknesses.

R5:155 – HB CJ Baxter (Texas) – B-

A big runner with some speed at the second level. He does have some medical red flags, but could pair nicely with Javonte Williams in the Cowboys backfield.

R5:177 – ED Anto Saka (Northwestern) – A+

Double-dipping at edge gives the Cowboys real rotational depth and this pick could turn into a future star.

R7:215 – C Logan Jones (Iowa) – A-

A late-round Iowa lineman is always worth a look. Especially with our backup center entering free agency after the season.

Takeaway:

Dallas’ defense has turned it around the last three games, but help is still needed to take us to the next level. This draft fills some needs and brings speed and athleticism to the defense.

Mock Draft #2: Secondary and The Trenches

R1:16 – CB Jerrod McCoy (Tennessee) – A

Imagine for a second being able to pair Bland, Revel, Diggs (maybe), and McCoy. This pick could create the best CB unit in the NFC.

R1:27 – T Francis Mauigoa (Miami) – A

Most fans are not especially high on Terence Steele or Tyler Guyton. This pick could create some versatility on the edges of the line and give Guyton the option of moving to the right side.

R4:116 – S Emmanuel McNeil-Warren (Toledo) – A

With a last name like that, he has to be good, right? Warren is also one of the most underrated safeties in this draft class.

R5:155 – LB Sammy Omosigho (Oklahoma) – B-

This is a big athletic linebacker who could develop behind our guys, like a Shemar James.

R5:177 – ED Malachi Lawrence (UCF) – A-

An explosive edge rusher who could help bring some pressure.

R7:215 – ED George Gumbs Jr. (Florida) – A+

Great length and value. This is an ideal late-round pick with massive upside.

Takeaway:

This is a mock for fans screaming to get rid of Terence Steele and strengthen the safety position. It’s balanced, physical, and long-term smart.
