WR James Washington Out 6-10 Weeks, Foot Surgery Tomorrow

As feared, Wide Receiver James Washington will miss significant time after today’s foot injury. Washington will have surgery tomorrow to repair the fracture and his recovery will likely cross over into the Cowboys’ early regular-season games.

The injury occurred earlier this afternoon during a training camp practice.

The Cowboys will be without WR James Washington for 6-10 weeks because of a fractured right foot suffered Monday, according to multiple sources. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday in Dallas.

Cowboys WR James Washington is expected to make initial 53-man roster on Aug. 30. He'll be four weeks post-surgery at time. Team can then decide whether to place Washington on injured reserve. If he goes on IR now, he won't be eligible for midseason activation (min. 4 games out). https://t.co/6f6IceBVGx

With Washington now joining Michael Gallup as an expected absentee for September, speculation is naturally rampant about Dallas adding a free agent receiver in the near future. But for now, it will be up to rookie Jalen Tolbert, veteran Noah Brown, and other prospects to fill the void.

But as training camp is just getting started, the odds of a free agent signing are higher than if we were closer to Week One.
