Will Blake Jarwin be a Lock for the Starting Tight End Position?

Blake Jarwin Excited for Return, "Happy" for the Success of Dalton Schultz

The Dallas Cowboys have now completed their third training camp practice, players on both sides of the ball are making strides. Early on, several players have shown why they deserve a starting spot or ways to contribute to the team at their respective positions.

One player, in particular, Tight End Blake Jarwin, who missed 15 games in 2020 with a Torn ACL, is back on the practice field and picking up to where he left off. Quarterback Dak Prescott has always spoken highly of Jarwin and the chemistry the two developed when on the field.

When Jarwin went down week one last season, backup tight end Dalton Schultz emerged as the starter and put the league on notice as he became a reliable option on offense. Schultz showed sure hands, blocking ability and was very dependable on a 6-10 Cowboys team decimated by injuries.

For his efforts, he may have a chance to be the starter for the upcoming season.

Jarwin is more fluid, athletic, while Schultz is the better all-around player as he can block and assist in the run game on the edges. So far this offseason, there has not been much talk if Jarwin will enter the season as the starter. Do not forget about Schultz, who will look to build on his breakout season and earn a starting spot.

We are in for an exciting offseason to see how this position will play out. The Cowboys have a good problem on their hands as offensive coordinator Kellen Moore can line both players up in different packages. Opposing defenses will have issues game-planning for both players as Jarwin can get upfield with great agility while Schultz can move the chains consistently.

Gary b.... Jarwin isn't a big investment, and he doesn't have that much guaranteed money either!! We can get out of his contract next year with only 2 mil in dead money, and that's not bad!! He got paid more than that last year and he only played a half a game!! And this article didn't say to keep Jarwin on the bench anyways, he talks about who should start, and then at the end of the article he says that Moore can line both players up in different packages and that'll keep the opposing defenses from game planning for both players cause Jarwin can get up field while Schultz is the chain mover!! I didn't see anything in this article that says anything about Jarwin riding the bench!! And another thing is that it shouldn't be hard to see that Schultz is the better TE after how good he played last season!! He done what Jarwin can do plus some!! The only thing Jarwin is good at is running routes, and he actually only had one good game under his belt!! While Schultz can do that plus block and help in the running game!! And Schultz proved last season that he can make plays against more than just one team!! I'm not saying I don't like Jarwin,, or he's not good, but Schultz is definitely the better all around player, which is why I think they'll more than likely split reps throughout the season.... They'll have Jarwin in the lineup when they want a TE to get up field for a big gain, and they'll have Schultz on the field when they need a TE to block or get enough yardage to move the chains!! And if Jerry is smart he'll extend Schultz by the end of the season and cut Jarwin!!

Schultz's versatility coming out of Stanford was compared favorably to Witten by both ESPN and SI. His presence on the field will not allow defenses to key on pass. Chances are, given Jarwins contract this will be the end of Schultz's time in Dallas. Some team is going to recognize his value and they will get an all around, 3 down player and the QB will love him just like back in the day when Arizona let Novacek walk in FA and Aikman fell in love with his security blanket pro bowl TE

I think it'll be a TE battle, Jarwin hasn't really gotten a chance to be the starting TE , but has looked great at times like that Giants game a couple years ago, and when he's had the opportunity, He's been injured, Shultz looked real good this year, but keep in mind, that was with AD, who loves using his TEs, it'll be interesting to see who gets to start and see how much playing time each one gets

Should be Schultz's job to lose ...

This is one of those good problems. Our OC should exploit those teams with average LBS

Jerry gave Jarwin that nice contract with guaranteed money. No way he lets his big investment ride the pine unless he's not healthy or looks visibly inferior to Schultz.
