The 2023 season is getting closer and closer, meaning more and more pressure is being bestowed on players and coaches.
There will be a lot of eyes on multiple Cowboys this season as they will be going into their make-or-break year. Here are some of the players and coaches who are on the chopping block this year.
Dak Prescott:
The undeniable first choice here is Quarterback Dak Prescott. Dak Prescott literally needs to win the Super Bowl this year for fans to accept him as their quarterback.
Prescott is for sure gone this year if he can’t bring Dallas the Lombardi Trophy next year.
Everyone is ready to move on from Prescott after his countless big-game screw-ups. Whenever the spotlight is on the Cowboys, Prescott has continually lost in the big games causing Dallas to not advance to an NFC Championship.
The entire NFL fanbase will be watching the Cowboys this year and mainly to see how Prescott performs.
Mike McCarthy:
Everyone always says “McCarthy went 12-5 twice”, but I don’t care. This man is trouble and hasn’t led the Cowboys down any bright paths.
Next year will be another extreme test for Head Coach Mike McCarthy as he will have another talented team that he takes nowhere. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Cowboys go 14-3 and then lose in the divisional.
It’s just another year where the hype is strong, but the leadership is gone. McCarthy is more on a chopping block with fans rather than with Owner Jerry Jones.
Even if he has a bad season, Jones is not going to fire him, but the fans will.
Tony Pollard:
While Running Back Tony Pollard is a newer face to fans and staff, there will still be plenty of eyes on the young running back in his starting year.
Now that’s Ezekiel Elliott is gone, Pollard will be the number-one running back in Dallas. Everyone knows that Pollard is a great running back, but is he strong enough to lead the Cowboys?
While his career isn’t on the chopping block like Prescott’s and McCarthy’s is, Pollard’s starting job is.
Pollard has already shown that he deserves the starting position, but the question is can he handle it?
Jake Ferguson:
Now that the tight end position is up in the air ever since Dalton Schultz left the Cowboys, all eyes will be focused on Tight End Jake Ferguson who is most likely to take over the main role for the team.
Ferguson performed well last year, with 174 yards and two touchdowns.
This will be his big chance to become the starting tight end if he can produce good enough stats as Schultz did. If he doesn’t, then the Cowboys will be looking for a new tight end to take over by the end of next season.
It seems that there’s more pressure on these players than one would think, but sometimes the pressure is good for some people, as it makes them perform even better than if they had none.
Fans will see how each player (and coach) progresses this year and determine if they still belong with the Cowboys or not.
