Don’t Buy what the Cowboys Brass is Selling About this Roster

Making the Playoffs Could do More Harm Than Good For Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys front office brass has gone to considerable lengths over the last couple of weeks to decry the notion that they need to add any other players to the roster through four games. To a man, Mike McCarthy, Stephen Jones, and Jerry Jones have downplayed the need to pursue a player like Earl Thomas or Damon Harrison to help bolster a defense that is playing historically bad football.

They like their options internally. They think it can be fixed with time and patience. They think they’re close.

Stephen Jones on @1053thefan asked for his message to Cowboys fans: I just think that we're not as far away as it seems, but we do have a lot of work to do. And we're very confident in this football team in spite of what we've seen in the first four games.

Jerry Jones even alluded to the salary was cap this morning on his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas as a reason why they can’t sign any players.

It doesn’t sound like significant help is coming for the Cowboys outside of the building.Jerry Jones on @1053thefan: “You could get some help next week and just absolutely wreck the hell out of your plans for your salary cap when the season’s over.”

It won’t be long before Dak Prescott’s name and future contract negotiations is drug into the conversation.

I’m not buying any of that and neither should you.

They may like their guys, but their guys aren’t getting it done. They may like what’s coming back whenever Sean Lee, Chidobe Awuzie, Anthony Brown, and Leighton Vander Each come off IR, but that’s still several weeks away. If the Cowboys aren’t careful they could be 1-5 in just a couple of weeks.

The Dallas Cowboys defense has been terrible this season, especially in neutral situations. When they’ve been behind and know that teams are just attempting to run out the clock, they’ve been better.

The Cowboys will probably beat the New York Giants this week, but no game is a given. Even if they do, don’t buy the idea that they’ve bounced back. This defense is still bad and with Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals coming up in week six, the defense will once again be exposed.

The Cowboys defense needs help. There’s no question about it. They could use an infusion of talent at all three levels of the defense. Just like they helped the offense in 2018 by trading for Amari Cooper, the Cowboys need to do something to give the defense a spark. Whether by trade or through a free agent signing, something has to be done.

They may not have an offense as good as this in years to come and the Cowboys can’t waste it with a defense that is going to breaking all kinds of record in 2020 for the wrong reasons

John I'm gonna disagree with a portion of what you said on Zeke and D Law. Zeke is going into his 5th yr I think history tells us this is about the time that RBs start to decline, and it appears may be happening to him. My contention is ride that RB for 4 yrs which is when they are in their prime then let someone else overpay for their less productive yrs. Regarding D Law he really only had one pro bowl level yr I think he never showed the production commiserate with his huge contract. And sadly he now can't stay healthy and appears to be declining. One of many bad contracts Jerry gave to his players. That coupled with bringing in many of the wrong FAs this yr that simply haven't panned out. Just my opinion for what it's work!

This week would be a good time to bring in a weddle or Thomas because less face it Dallas should look good against the giants. So if the DB’s go out and look great this week. ( and I think they will) next week we got Hopkins, fizz to cover.and Murray running all over the place. Weddle or Thomas could use this week to prepare. (Learn the system) our offense is talented. I would bring both weddle and Thomas in.play one close to the line of scrimmage like a extra LB on run Defense they are good tacklers We have not tackle very well. The guys watch film they know there has been to many arm tackles. Arm tackles result in extra yards.the D has a lot of pride, there good players.time to get more physical P.s the price would have to be right to sign both. Lol

This is Jerry Jones' DREAM TEAM - the one he has always wanted. It plays a ridiculously exciting brand of football (great for ratings), it's controversial (and therefore always in the news thus increasing brand value) and it is not successful. If it were some evil demon coach might steal the spotlight (Looking at you Jimmy) from Jones. He won't let that happen again - ever. So you might want to get used to these Cowgirls who have no incentive to win and therefore no accountability. Just get another massage, Mike

Sadly, I can't even argue with you. I know Jerry wants to win a Super Bowl, and so it surprises me that they aren't willing to bring in a player like Earl Thomas to help the secondary.

Jerry Jones said you could wreck your salary cap at the of the season. You have to look at it from a view of this season.picking up some one like weddle could make a big difference on a young secondary who play hard just look confused on coverages. He’s a vet that can still play and he’s smart. Talk to his agents see what type of $ is he wanting.he may be the missing piece

Right. Signing a guy like Weddle or even Earl Thomas isn't going to break your salary cap down the road.

I’ve said it before and say it again look how many times a player gets his big contract and BOOM his Productivity falls out of sight! Just look at DL and EE! All NFL players need to be paid on a Performance based system! You play good you get paid, you stink it up, you get a base Pay! Just thought I would throw this out there! Anybody disagree?

Lawrence and Elliott both earned their deals. Lawrence is dealing with an injury and I don't know what's up with Ezekiel Elliott's fumbles. That's a crazy rate.

We are weak defensively at all three levels. The DL the LBs and finally the secondary. Teams are cutting thru our D like a knife thru butter. No resistance whatsoever. Wish we were only one player away, but I fear the reality is much bleaker.

It's incredible how bad they are defensively. After 2011-2013, I never thought I'd see a defense as bad as that, but here we are.

If they can't beat Giants, then they are going nowhere this year. Need to bring in a DT that can hold the point. Against Browns, D line was getting blown off the line. A LB is needed also. If we wait on the IR to come back, the season may be a lost one by then.

I think they'll beat the Giants and then try to sell us on the idea that they're back, but I'm not buying.
