The Dallas Cowboys have long been more than a football team. They’ve been a brand. Built off the backs of the sustained level of success during the Tom Landry era, which included two Super Bowl Championships and an NFL record of 20 consecutive winning seasons, America’s Team is one of the more recognizable brands in all of sports.
Incredible when you think about it. The Dallas Cowboys haven’t won, or even appeared in a Super Bowl since the 1995 season and they are still one of the most popular teams in sports.
Further evidence of the team’s popularity comes as the NFLPA releases its top earners in group licensing. Dak Prescott is number four.
Sitting in front of Prescott are Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Patrick Mahomes. Three quarterbacks who have had championship success. Three quarterbacks who have at one point in time been considered the best at the position.
In the accounting year, which ended February 29th, 2020, Prescott earned just over $2.5 million, which comes “from marketing and royalties, largely from video games, apparel, and trading cards.” Dak has become one of the more marketable players in the NFL.
Ezekiel Elliott was also on the list earning more than $1 million last year.
Quarterbacks in the NFL are generally going to have a leg up on other position players when it comes to opportunities for endorsements and merchandise. They’re generally the players that the networks build storylines around. They’re the position that gets the most air time and publicity. Being the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys also helps as its one of the most recognizable and valuable positions in all of sports.
Dak Prescott is on the brink of signing one of the richest contracts in NFL history when he and the Dallas Cowboys eventually settle on a long-term contract. During his rookie deal, he’s been an incredible value as the Cowboys have been one of the winningest regular season teams during his four seasons in the NFL.
