With the exception of the inaugural 1960 season, the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles have been bitter rivals and division foes.
The teams will meet for the 129th and 130th times this year. The first game is slated for Nov. 5th in Philadelphia. The rematch will come five weeks later on Dec. 10th at AT&T Stadium.
The Cowboys hold a 73-55 record against the Eagles. Dallas also holds a significant scoring advantage, 2845-2546, over Philadelphia.
They’ve made “Cry, Eagles, Cry” a thing by winning three of the last four meetings. Neither team has had their starting quarterback in their last respective losses.
Defending Home Turf
Dallas is 42-24 at home against the Eagles with a 1620-1344 scoring lead. The Cowboys held a 7-4 record at the Cotton Bowl, winning the last five games played there.
The Cowboys won the first eight meetings at Texas Stadium, extending the streak to 13 straight home wins. Dallas finished 26-14 at its former home.
Dallas is 9-6 against the Eagles at AT&T Stadium, including a 24-14 Wild Card win in the 2009 playoffs. The Cowboys have won the last five games at home against Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia Story
The teams have battled to a 31-31 tie in the 62 games played in Philadelphia. The Cowboys hold a slight 1225-1202 scoring edge, however.
The Eagles have won three of the last four games in Philadelphia. The Cowboys are 11-9 against the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. Dallas lost its first game at Lincoln, 36-10, in 2003.
Dallas handed the Eagles a 42-7 drubbing in the Eagles first-ever game at Veterans Stadium on Sept. 26, 1971. The Cowboys finished 16-16 overall at Veterans Stadium.
Dallas was 4-6 at Franklin Field between 1961-1970. They lost their first game there, 35-13, in 1961. But the Cowboys won their last game there, 17-7, in 1970.
Working Overtime
The two teams have had to go to overtime to settle a game on four occasions. Three of those were played at AT&T Stadium.
Dallas lost the first of the three, 33-27, on Nov. 8, 2015. The very next year, Oct. 30, 2016, the Cowboys won 29-23.
The final game of the three, on Dec. 9, 2018, was a 9-6 snoozefest after three quarters. It ended with another 29-23 overtime win over the Eagles for the Cowboys.
Dak Prescott found Amari Cooper for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Carson Wentz matched him with two scoring passes of his own.
Prescott found Cooper for a 15 yard scoring pass for the game-winner.
The overtime game played in Philadelphia was a 16-13 Eagles’ win at Veterans Stadium on Nov. 5, 2000.
The Magic Number Is 27
The teams have met four times in the postseason. The first meeting, Jan. 11, 1981, saw the Eagles win at home, 20-7, for the NFC Championship.
Neither Danny White, nor the Eagles Ron Jaworski, could move the ball in the air.
But Wilbert Montgomery shredded the Cowboys defense for 194 yards and a touchdown. The Eagles scored 13 unanswered points in the second half.
It would be 12 years before the next postseason meeting. The Cowboys reeled off 27 unanswered points and rolled to a 34-10 Divisional round win at Texas Stadium on Jan. 10, 1993.
On Jan. 7, 1996, again in a Divisional round game at Texas Stadium, Dallas broke a 3-3 tie with 27 unanswered points. The Cowboys easily put away the Eagles 30-11.
The Cowboys would make it three straight playoff wins over the Eagles on Jan. 9, 2010. They would only score 24 unanswered points this time in a 34-14 win at AT&T Stadium.
