Could Cowboys Trade Dez Bryant or Cole Beasley During the Draft?

No one really knows exactly what the Dallas Cowboys wide receiver position will look like when the 2018 season gets underway. There are still way too many things that can happen between now and then to know anything for certain, but things could become much clearer after the completion of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Luckily, the draft is just two weeks away, which should help put an end to any kind of speculation or rumors circulating around the Internet. One thing is for sure though, things could start to get really interesting April 26 when the draft gets underway.

I know it’s extremely rare for veteran players to get traded during the draft, but if I’m Dez Bryant or Cole Beasley for that matter, I’m sitting a little uneasy until it’s all over. Both of them could be at risk of getting traded.

I know I’m probably reading too much into the fact the Dallas Cowboys haven’t made an official announcement about what they plan to do with their stockpile of wide receivers, but something’s got to give. There are just simply too many WRs on the roster right now and not all of them are going to make the final cut.

Unfortunately, Cole Beasley is entering the last year of his contract and Dez Bryant’s contract doesn’t match his production. Also, it looks as if the Dallas Cowboys could possibly have their replacements already on the roster in Allen Hurns and Ryan Switzer. Things don’t look too good for the Cowboys top two WRs right now.

I have absolutely no doubt both Bryant and Beasley would receive a lot of interest from several teams around the league if they were put on the trade market. Bryant isn’t quite as washed up as a lot of Cowboys Nation believes, and Beasley is one of the better slot receivers in the league.

Off the top of my head, the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens, Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, and Seattle Seahawks all have needs at wide receiver and could show some degree of interest in acquiring Dez Bryant or Cole Beasley. If the Cowboys wanted, I don’t think they would have any problem finding a willing trade partner.

With 10 draft picks already, the Dallas Cowboys could use Dez Bryant and Cole Beasley to do even more wheeling and dealing.

For instance, if they wanted to move up in the first round for a player they truly coveted, they could sweeten the deal by throwing in Bryant or Beasley. That could keep them from giving up an extra draft pick and dump a player with an expiring contract.

This of course is all speculation, but not completely out of the realm of possibility. Like I mentioned earlier, things could really get interesting when the draft finally gets underway.

Is it just me or are there way to many WRs and way to much cost at WR for a run first offense? Do we need all these X,Y,Z and A,B,C receivers? Really? Get the Guard filled in @ #19 or move up from #50. Take those 10 picks and move around, up and down, so that we have 6 or 7 good picks, devoting the majority of them to the defense. DL, S, 2LB, G, WR, and maybe another RB - in no particular order (except G). It will be interesting to see which WRs become trade bait.

Trade both. Let Beasley fulfill his destiny as Tom Brady's slot machine, and swing Dez to either SF, ATL, or BAL for an extra 2 or 3

I agree Dez Bryant's attitude on the sideline sucks, but last season wasn't entirely on him. If Dallas had a decent number 2 WR to take some of the double teaming off of him, that would have helped. Terrance Williams couldn't catch a cold.

Keep Dez for the remainder of his contract. Trade Cole Beasley to New England for a 3rd round pick or keep him if you can't. Trade T Will for a water girl or what ever someone will give. Play Rico at TE and limit Wittens play down to 1/3 the snaps until he retires. Witten is my favorite, but it's 3 years to long to have replaced him. If you want to win in this league you can't let your feelings get it the way of winning. Make the correct moves to make the team better. The buddy system needs to come to a end and it's time to win more rings.

Once again, I’ve been saying it from the start. NE could use Beasley, trade him for a second or third and continue to build depth. No one in there right mind would trade for DEZ so he will be a June 1 cut. Use that money to sign Martin and tank. All this does is put more pressure on Dak and the coaches to perform. Be careful what you ask for. One more thing.........when will the front office realize that witten can’t beat a old woman in a wheelchair. Great that you restructured but you are not that player that defenses gameplan for. Go to the booth, you will always be a cowboys great but it’s time for you to go as well.DC4L

I don't think Dez taking a pay cut is an option. He would feel "disrespected" and his sulking and pouting would fracture the locker room. To me, its either cut him or trade him and soon. I like the trade option to move up in the draft a lot.

You may as well add T-Will to that list. With certainty, we know somebody is out in the WR Rio, especially knowing they are looking hard at WR in the draft. Personally, I'm hopeful that his contract gets re-negotiated tomorrow and he stays for one more year. I'd like to see if he and Dak can connect one more year and how he will pair with Hurns. But even if his contract is resolved it wouldn't preclude him from being involved in a trade maybe in a swap with Seattle for ET. Draft picks might need to be involved, depending on how the sides view that trade. That would also scratch off safety from our needs list and pull WR to the forefront. It's going to be interesting to say the least over the next few weeks.

I think if you can trade dez, you have to. It is likely the last opportunity we have to get any type of return on him. Otherwise we are paying him $16.5 million to lose him after the season for nothing. I think that either way, we need to look at this draft and try to get a young potential WR1 like a DJ Moore, Kirk, or Calvin Ridley if he falls. As you mentioned trading dez could allow us to get one of those guys and still fill other holes in the top 100. I personally don’t want to trade Beasley because I think that his ability to get open is what helps dak out most. I would really love to see linehan figure out a way to get both switzer and Beasley on the field together and see how it can help the offense.

beasley is more expandable than dez is, we must keep dez. it's funny how people never complain about beasley being a no show last year, where was his production? where did he go? i'd move him. and yes there are plenty of wr's in this years draft.

  Beasley was non-existent because of the year he had before. Defenses took notice of what he did last year and our coaches got out coached with him in mind. I see Beasley taken a team friendly deal before Dez does. Keep #19, the trade up I would do is in the 2nd rd. Move up in that Rd or in the back end of the 1st. #19 Vita Vea or Da'Ron Payne Late first or early second, Rashaan Evans

    dez has dealt with it his entire career and has managed to make plays. you can say the same for both players about how coaching or non-coaching has "ruined" them the last few years. IMO, beasley had off the field activities he was more interested in than football last year.

Trade Twill.... his production has been nonexistent since he was drafted. I like Brice butler better. Noah Brown isn't too far from the guy. Draft WR in the second (Sutton, Moore, Kirk, Washington) and keep Dez for one more year to increase trade value. Beasley, if you can get a 3rd, I move him, if not, I take a comp 4th in 2019.
