AT&T Stadium has been home to America’s Team since the 2009 NFL season. But, unfortunately, despite many bookies such as Unibet listing the Cowboys among the favorites for the Super Bowl, the elusive title that fans crave since moving to the state-of-the-art arena hasn’t come just yet.
However, the stadium has put Dallas on the map, as AT&T Stadium has hosted some of the biggest events in the world since it has opened. But, what are some of the most significant events that have been held at the 105,000-capacity stadium?
2010 NBA All-Star Game
The world’s highest-attended basketball game in history took place at AT&T Stadium in 2010, as the famous arena hosted the NBA All-Star Weekend. The announced attendance at the event was 108,713, as fans watched the East triumph over the West with a 141-139 victory. Dwayne Wade was the star on the night, as he scored 28 points and finished with eleven assists.
Super Bowl XLV
The big game of the NFL season was staged at AT&T Stadium for the first, and only, time to date in 2011. The stadium played host, as the NFC champions, the Green Bay Packers defeated the AFC champions, the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was an entertaining Super Bowl, with the Packers eventually running out 31-25 despite a late comeback effort from the Steelers.
There was a total attendance of 103,219 for the game, which was just short of the attendance record. However, it was the most viewed Super Bowl of all time, with a record 111 million viewers watching the championship game. The Black Eyed Peas headlined the half-time show, while Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was named MVP in the Super Bowl for the first time.
Canelo Alvarez vs Billy Joe Saunders
One of the world’s greatest ever boxers graced AT&T Stadium in May 2021, as Canelo Alvarez followed in the footsteps of Manny Pacquiao and headlined the famous venue. It was the second time that the Mexican had headlined a card at the stadium, and he did so in front of a record indoor boxing crown in the United States, with 73,126 fans in attendance for his bout against Billy Joe Saunders.
That evening, Canelo was in sensational form as he landed a right uppercut on the defending WBO Super Middleweight Champion in the eighth round. Saunders was unable to continue, and Canelo was crowned WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, and The Ring Super Middleweight Champion. He later unified the division by defeating IBF champion Caleb Plant.
WrestleMania
The biggest event in the world of WWE was held at AT&T Stadium in April 2016. It was also the most-attended WrestleMania of all time, as 101,763 fans attended the showpiece event on the WWE calendar.
The card was headlined by a WWE Championship match between Triple H and Roman Reigns, which was won by the latter. Also, on the card, Brock Lesnar defeated Dean Ambrose, The Undertaker overcame Shane McMahon, and Charlotte Flair became the first WWE Women’s champion after beating Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch. WrestleMania will be held in Dallas at AT&T Stadium once again in 2022.
